Featured Product: The Future Generation of 3M™ Thin Bonding

Thin Bonding refers to the use of thin adhesive tapes that are typically less than 10 mils. They are designed to create strong, yet very discreet, bonds between materials. Thin bonding tapes can be used to bond together various substrates including metals, plastics, powder-coated materials, and many more. Thin bonding lets your design shine without bulky fasteners by using a virtually invisible industrial-strength bond to attach materials.

Thin bonding tapes typically involve the use of Adhesive Transfer Tapes or Double Coated Tapes. The tapes are a thin layer of adhesive, often with a carrier. Using a tape rather than a liquid adhesive allows you to customize the tape to the precise shape you need for the final design, as well as giving you production flexibility by leaving the liner in place until the second substrate is ready. Adhesive transfer tapes or double coated tapes provide shear strength, conformability, and high initial adhesion and have industrial applications in electronics, auto interiors, signage and graphics, sporting equipment, and much more.

Thin bonding tapes are engineeried to stick to hard-to-bond surfaces. See the 3M Thin Bonding flyer for more information.

Key features include the following:

  • High initial bond strength to low surface energy (LSE) substrates
  • High shear strength to low surface energy (LSE) substrates
  • Good anti-lifting properties on flat and curved surfaces
  • Double coated tape is easy to die-cut, handle, and apply
  • No primer needed
