Before getting started, it’s important to understand what the expectation and function of the label. The surface the label is applied to will also significantly affect product choice. Take into consideration if the label will be applied under any unusual circumstances including extreme temperature and exposure to chemicals.
Permanent, Removable and Repositionable Labels
Next, consider the requirements for the adhesive. Will the label need to be removable, permanent, or maybe even repositionable? A heavier adhesive weight would be a better choice for rough surfaces since more adhesive will be needed to flow in between the peaks and valleys creating a suitable environment to ensure an effective bond.

Finally, printing method plays a major factor in label material choice. Many labels have been coated with a special topcoat layer that enables print receptivity. Understanding how the label will be printed will help narrow down appropriate choices.
