Mylar® and Melinex® polyester films from DuPont Teijin Films are versatile films that are trusted by companies worldwide and used in a wide range of applications. One such application is the Oral Thin Films market.
Oral Thin Films, also known as orally dissolving films, are a drug delivery method used by some pharmaceutical companies to manufacture prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, and supplements. Delivering via orally dissolving strips is beneficial to individuals who otherwise have a difficult time swallowing medications and supplements formulated in pills, tablets, or gels.
Oral Thin Film TechnologyTypically the oral thin film formulation is cast to a film substrate where the formulation cures and then is slit and cut into pieces and packaged in dose-friendly packaging. These pieces are often referred to as strips. The strips can be placed on the tongue and then deliver the medication as they dissolve.

The Importance of FDA Compliance for Oral Film PharmaceuticalsMany pharmaceutical companies value the FDA food contact approval of these film types as well as the films’ tolerance to wide temperatures ranging between -100°F to 300°F.
These Mylar and Melinex film types are also valued because they are chemically inert, won’t leach, and can be used as a barrier to acids, weak bases, greases and oils, detergents, and other active ingredients.
Please consult your Tekra sales representative when considering the use of MYLAR® MLB or MLBT for medical or pharmaceutical applications.
